The Taonga Education Centre also provides the following services:

  • An early childhood centre with appropriate teaching and administration staff for tamariki of teen mothers enrolled in the Teen Parent Unit -Potiki license = 39 tamariki
  • Two community early childhood centres with appropriate teaching and administration staff for community tamariki – Kakano license = 49 tamariki, Homai Nga Taonga license + 50 tamariki
  • On-site the Teen Parent Unit have a Community Whanau Worker and Registered Nurse provided by Te Hononga O Tamaki Me Hoturoa
  • On-site the Teen Parent Unit have two Teen Parent Intensive Case Worker’s
  • The Teen Parent Unit have access to a community Teen Parent Intensive Case Worker and community Whanau Support Worker
  • On-site the early childhood centres have Cooks whose role are to provide healthy and nutricious meals for the tamariki
  • Parenting, Life-skills and Leadership Programmes
  • Daily pick-up and drop-off transport service for both teen mothers and their tamariki to the Teen Parent Unit
  • Supported House for teenage mothers and their babies
  • Teen Parent Volunteer to work alongside Whanau Support Workers,Teen Parent Intensive Case Worker and Community Health Worker with transport, programmes, etc
  • Deliver the Safe Sleep Programme and distribute Pepi-pods to teenage parents in the South Auckland area
  • Educate and sale of Child Restraints to the community at wholesale prices
  • Educate and hire of Child Restraints to the community
  • Waste Management Programme to prepare residents for the changes to Waste collections in 2016

The purpose of the trust

  • To represent and advance from a Maori perspective the wellbeing of teenage mothers, their babies and their Whanau through the interest and business of Taonga Education Centre Charitable Trust for the benefit of Teenage mothers, their babies and their Whanau and the wider community
  • To encourage the development of potential, either individually and collectively among teenage mothers , their babies and their whanau for the betterment of society as a whole.
  • To endorse and promote the Treaty of Waitangi which recognises and guarantees Te Tino Rangatiratanga over material, cultural and spiritual resources of Mana Whenua within the rohe of Manukau
